Make a Difference...

We do a lot, as a congregation, in the community. Our new partnerships with the folks who share space in our building have opened up incredible opportunities for new involvements. Here are a few of them:

Our Global Goods store offers a ministry of empowerment and justice around the world!

Selling fair trade items (especially coffee, chocolate and handcrafted goods), we support artisans and farmers in some of the world's poorest places by shopping and working at the Global Goods Store.

Frannie Taylor coordinates our participation in this fair-trade ministry. Our current store hours are Saturday, 9:30 to 6:30 and on Sunday, we're open before and after worship. Visit our site or email Julia to volunteer or to learn more!

Want to welcome visitors from around the world?  The Pilgrim House Hostel is a fully operational hostel.  We need folks to help at the desk from 11:30 - 2:00 each day.  Contact Julia Hicks julhicks@hotmail.com if you're interested in welcoming folks and helping them feel at home during their Memphis visit!

Orleans Elementary School is our congregation's adopted school. We work with the teachers and parents at Orleans to provide support for the students there. Many of us spend an hour tutoring at Orleans each week--which can mean anything from helping a kid learn math to just listening to them read a book to you. We also provide school supplies and financial support to purchase uniforms, for special school trips and that sort of thing. Call Julia Hicks at 278-6786, extension 3 to learn more.

The Revolutions bicycle initiative needs volunteers who can help supervise kids as they repair their bicycles or talk with adults about bicycling. Call 278-6786, extension 9 to leave a message and get more information.

First Saturday Club is a monthly social gathering for adults with developmental disabilities. We meet the first Saturday of each month for a party (2-4pm). Volunteers provide simple games, activities and conversation. Call Julia at 278-6786, X3 for information.

We need help with hospitality ministries! If you can help with coffee hour on Sunday mornings, we'd love to hear from you. We'd also be interested in hearing from you if you'd like to be available to welcome visiting groups who stay in our Retreat Center. We host traveling youth groups, Freedom Summer participants, and families who are in housing transition.

Do you like to garden? We need volunteers to help care for the yard, plant flowers and tend our garden. Call 278-6786, extension 3 to volunteer.

Our Loaves and Fishes Closet provides food and clothing for many folks in the Cooper-Young Neighborhood and beyond.  We appreciate the contributions of food (especially food that does not require cooking) and wearable clothing.  We especially try to collect these items on the first Sunday of each month.
